I can do boring...

A boringly uneventful pedal in. No punctures (even though I chose the route through the City Centre) and only one WVM passing a tad too close for comfort. I'll take that.

The ride home last night along the cut was very wet but pretty good fun, the canal due to the weather was virtually empty of folk even through Brindley Place in the City Centre, so I could get a lick on.

On the kit front my Endura overshoes have let me down. The zip on my left shoe has completely broken off, this is after the plastic bit you pull the zips with broke off a few weeks back. This happened on both zips. So I've had to dig out my Porelle Dry Socks that I've had for years. They do keep my feet dry but I've always found them a tad too tight and my feet tend to get cold, probably because of the tightness of the socks I'm guessing.

I've been doing a bit of research on pumps and so far I'm thinking the Topeak Mountain Morph Pump. I've arrived at this one reading the reviews and looking at actual ease of inflation. Anyone got any better suggestions?

Oh, and I've lost my Hi Vis daysack cover, I reckon the Spawn of Satan has hidden it somewhere, but in his 2 year old crafty way he is denying all knowledge of it...

  1. Waterproof socks do nothing for keeping your feet warm I find. Part of the problem I think is that wind passing over them evaporates water on the surface creating a cooling effect.

I have a couple of Topeak pumps and they've been good.

Oh, I've found your Hi Vis daysack cover... Go over to MadJohn's latest blog post:

Click on first picture of John on his bike, and look in the top right. No idea how your son got to Wiltshire or reached up there, but if he is the crafty little sod you make out he is, I'm sure he found a way :)

  2. Ahhh Rafe....that is one of my many hi viz jackets :-)

I have a number of different pumps - my two favs are a bikehike travelling track pump from Halfrauds - A little heavy but almost indestructible. And the one that is on my Merida road bike is a Topeak Master Blaster DX with Gauage (Although the guage is ferkin useless! It does get the road bike up to 100psi with no difficulties.

The other bikes have a Blackburn long pump and a cheaper mini pump on the Peugeot.

I find the Sealskinz waterproof socks fill up with water nicely :-) But they do keep the wind-chill off, I tend to use Velcro fixing overshoes as the zips always cause an issue!

  3. One of my pumps is the Topeak Master Blaster DX with guage. That's what I have my MTB pack. Attached to the road bike is one of their skinny ones that looks like a cigar tube.

Anyway, stop commenting on other peoples blogs and go comment on mine coz no other bugger is :(

  4. More specifically... The MTB pump is the Topeak Master Blaster Mini DX with Gauge. The other for the road bike is a Topeak Micro ALT - that's not got enough oomph for a high volume tyre but does okay getting the road bike up to high pressure.
