The body is a mysterious thing...

The pedal home was thankfully absolutely full of absolutely nothing to report. A swift dash down the cut followed by the usual grind up hill to home. No-one tried to assassinate me. Which was nice. Although I was pretty knackered at the end and pretty glad I'm not pedalling today.

I did my weigh in last night when I got home, still 19st 4Ib, which considering I've been pedalling religiously and very careful with my scoff is a tad disappointing. but, them's the breaks. Just have to try harder next week.

I've just read some of the comments over on Jobys Blog about the Manc/Blackpool and a very kind invite for me to do it. I've been thinking about an event to aim for and I've pretty much decided to do this one.

Obviously being an ex squaddie with some very good mates still serving in some not very nice places, this is a cause very close to my heart.

I'll be doing it not in 2010 but 2011 as I'm nowhere near fit enough to do it at the moment and I would like to enjoy it and I guess I'll need a half decent road bike. The Chapman exchequer cannot fund one any time soon so this is another reason for the delay.

I already have a couple of ex squaddie mates who have promised to accompany me so the planning starts soon.

Watch this space!

I'll be off roading tomorrow, I've spotted a nice little loop, about 10 miles through the Waseley's and Lickey's, I might even take my camera and inflict my image upon you all again!

  1. Keep your chin up on the weight loss thing, it just happens like that, five weeks without a pound off is my current "record". On the plus side though, after every plateau there's usually a run of quick loss. Keep plugging at it and keep up the good work on the blog, I wish I could find more time for mine!

  2. Thanks Brian, I'm sure it'll be fine. Just keep plugging at it as you say.

Oh, and I've a new blog to read! Quite a little community this isn't it? :)

  3. This time of the year the weight does not get lost (easily)...

Its cold out and the narural status quo is for your body to store up some insulation.

Come the summer when you can be out on the bike for many hours the weight loss will kick in big time.

  4. Looks a good ride. My big ride this year was over that way, London to Bruges through the WWI battlefields.

Going from no big ride to that big a ride is a jump. Worth looking at BikeEvents for some smaller long rides to get some practice in.

@John, that's good information. At least I've got an excuse I'm only losing a pound or so a week ;)

  5. Rafe, I'll be producing a training plan for the build up. I won't be doing as my buddy did, going from no cycling for about 5 years to a London Paris jaunt with his company last September! He still walks with a limp!

That gives you an idea of my weighloss - look at October - 3 weeks stuck at same weight despite doing more miles :)

Your getting off your ass and exercising - thats more than enough - the rest will follow accordingly.

(Tip: if you've got big balls, empty your load first before weighing... Every fluid Oz counts ;) )
